In case you have a mailbox with your own personal domain and not a 3rd-party one, you will be able to use an email software application such as Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird to access and administer your email accounts. The advantage of using such apps is that you can also take advantage of other features, such as address books and calendars. There are two different email delivery protocols that you can choose from when you set up the app of your liking to access your mailbox – POP3 and IMAP. With the first one, all messages that are received will be downloaded on your device – mobile or desktop, unless you opt to save a copy on the email server. With the second one, the messages will be displayed at your end, but they will stay on the server all the time, so you can set up the account on numerous devices and check the messages from any place. You will also be able to access old email messages in case there’s a problem with your Internet connectivity, which is an advantage over a web-based service.
